Removal of ganglions

Ganglions are small fluid filled cysts in the hand that can be unsightly, annoying or even painful.  Historically, people were treated by literally being hit with a heavy book (classically The Bible!) sufficiently hard that the ganglion ruptured. Happily, we now have other methods of managing them. Sometimes, the fluid can be sucked out with a needle in the clinic - but then they have a high chance of coming back.  Otherwise they can be treated by surgical removal, often under a local anaesthetic.
